FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

State honors Go To CHC For ‘Entrepreneurial Success’

“Treatment works; people recover. Recovering people work; working people pay taxes.” That’s been the mantra of Ohio’s alcohol and drug addiction prevention, treatment and recovery services system and its advocates who say an investment in recovery is an investment in Ohio’s future.

For their role in equipping men and women in recovery with training and skills necessary to become productive citizens, the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS) recognized five state funded service providers with its inaugural Entrepreneurial Success Awards on March 5.

“In this time of increasingly tight state and federal funding, it is vitally important that agencies create alternative revenue streams to both enhance their bottom lines and provide job readiness skills for their clients,” commented ODADAS Director Angela Cornelius.

2007 Entrepreneurial Success honorees included: The Columbus Area Inc.’s Bell Africentric Therapeutic Community-Auto Shine Car Wash, Akron Community Health Center - Family Practice & CommStaff, The Counseling Center Inc.- Hope Works of Portsmouth, First Step Home-Blooming Roses LLC of Cincinnati and FRS Counseling-Transportation program of Hillsboro.

The CHC was recognized for its small business solutions to address needs for health care, housing and vocational assistance for patients in recovery.

The awards were presented as part of ODADAS’ “The Bottom Line: Cost Effective and Customer-Centered AOD Services” spring conference. To be considered for an Entrepreneurial Success Award, nominees were required to be affiliated with an alcohol or other drug addiction services program, agency or board and be able to demonstrate how the business has benefited clients in recovery, the sponsoring agency and the surrounding community.
