Project PANDA celebrates 100th camp
for middle school students in our area
Summit County - Project PANDA (Prevent and Neutralize Drug and Alcohol Abuse) is a prevention program designed to educate and mobilize middle school students and their peers all over Northeast Ohio about the negative effects of substance abuse. The program is available to any middle school student in the area and is managed by the Community Health Center (www.commhealthcenter.org).
This April, PANDA will celebrate its 100th camp since the program’s inception in 1985. The program centers around a 3-day camp experience where adolescents participate in team building and group activities with students and volunteers from different schools. This historic milestone represents over 10,000 adolescents from 25+ middle schools that have participated in PANDA through the years.
PANDA brings together students from all social and economic backgrounds to learn about what they all have in common - being young and dealing with peer pressure and the temptation of experimenting with alcohol, tobacco or other substances. One of the most compelling aspects of PANDA is the strong network of young people working and believing in the cause of preventing drug abuse among their peers. PANDA participants have a student-ran website, monthly PANDA meetings, and are actively involved in the community.
For more information about Project PANDA and the 100th camp on April 18-20 visit www.projectpanda.org. For a full list of middle schools that currently participate in the program, please call 330-315-2689.
