Akron Beacon Journal reports on Nela Manor
The doors are locked, the stove is new and not one epithet is scrawled on the walls.
That's little less than a blessing to the disabled Jeffrey Davis, one of the first tenants to move into the once crime-ridden Nela Manor apartments in Akron's West Hill neighborhood.
Nela's new landlord has invested about $4.2 million to buy and improve the federally subsidized garden apartments.
"Tenants are going to know that if they have a problem it's going to be addressed,'' said spokeswoman Chrissy Lockhart of the owners, the Community Health Center Foundation of Akron. "Things aren't going to go unnoticed."
