According to the U.S. Department of Heath and Human Services’ 2002 National Survey on Drug use and Health — More than 12 million people age 12 and older reported that they had used methamphetamine at least once in their lifetime.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office reports the number of methamphetamine sites discovered in this state have continued to increase—from 18 labs in 2000 to 350 labs in 2004. The manufacturing of methamphetamine leaves behind toxic waste and releases toxic gases into the air. Cleaning up even a small laboratory or dumpsite can cost several thousand dollars. Methamphetamine can be manufactured with common household products in laboratories using ingredients purchased at the local store.
Drug-Free Action Alliance is a not-for-profit organization that provides leadership and fosters networks in order to promote safe and drug free communities throughout Ohio. More information can be found at their website at: www.ohioparents.org or at www.commhealthcenter.org.
