THE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER IS SUMMIT COUNTY'S PREMIER PROVIDER OF COMPREHENSIVE TREATMENT FOR THE REHABALITATION AND REVENTION OF ADDICTIVE AND COMPULSIVE DISORDERS.
For the past 30 years the Community Health Center has sought to provide the most professional
and yet cost effective services to the residents of Summit County who are faced
with addictive and compulsive disorders. Our heritage stems from the Unity of
Action Council on Drug Abuse, a group of private citizens, who in 1970 funded
the initial drug abuse treatment programs. In 1974 the Unity of Action Council
was disbanded and the Summit County Drug Board assumed the task that had begun
so well. Later our name was changed to the Community Drug Board and then to
the Community Health Center, a name that truly reflects our commitment to holistic
treatment combining primary health care with behavioral health care.
As the new millennium
began the Community Health Center added the additional component of housing
to truly offer a holistic approach to providing help for those whose lives have
been altered through addiction and compulsive disorders. AMHA Cluster Apartments
and Summit Terrace, a 20-unit facility for dual diagnosed patients have been
joined by Peachtree Estates an expanding campus for the reunification of families
separated because of addiction issues. In 2002 four additional housing complexes
will be constructed as a means of additional treatment to prevent relapse and
break the addictive cycle within families.
With our emphasis
on adolescent treatment, primary health care, and holistic wrap-around care
for all our patients we continue to honor our past while focusing on innovation
in response to the future. The programming of the Community Health Center is
described in a variety of brochures such as:
