If there is one term that
can be used to describe
the efforts of the
Community Health Center

in terms of service to both adult and adolescent patients, it is "Innovative".

We recognize that there is no single treatment
modality that is
appropriate for all patients; thus, treatment plans are designed to address issues of concern while affirming the individual patient’s strengths.

DIAGNOSTICS
“Entering into a treatment program often presents a challenge to those
experiencing this for the first time. Our diagnostic staff treats each new
patient with a sense of respect and encouragement for making the lifechanging
decision to confront his/her addiction.”

The goal of the Diagnostic Department is to identify individuals with chemical dependency
problems that in referred patients may be exhibited through criminal involvement, behavioral
maladjustment, family turmoil, educational dysfunction, vocational or financial instability, or
emotional, mental or physical impairment. Patients are referred for the chemical dependency
assessment by community referral sources. The Diagnostic Department provides comprehensive chemical dependency assessments through the use of a wide variety of substance abuse screening inventories as well as a medical exam and urinalysis for adults and adolescents. This comprehensive diagnosis serves as the basis for the treatment program.

DAY-TOX INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM
“I really wanted to quit using, but the triggers were all around me. I am so
grateful to my counselor and peers who gave me the belief in myself that I
could do it. I will always be a recovering addict, but I am free.”

The DAY-TOX Program is an intensive treatment modality designed to stabilize patients who
are abusing substances. This program meets 3 days per week, 3 hours per day. Patients who stabilize are referred to a less intensive treatment program. Patients who are unable to achieve stability are referred to a more intensive treatment modality.

INTENSIVE CRACK/COCAINE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM
"What is it like to be hooked on crack? Your world revolves around getting
bucks for the next fix. I sold all my kids’ clothes to buy three days worth of
rocks. Thank God, my counselor never gave up on me."

Patients entering this program will enroll in an intensive treatment regimen during the first
several weeks. Intensive group and individual therapy is followed by a less intensive outpatient program that continues throughout a four and one half month period. The complete recovery program includes intensive outpatient treatment, individual counseling, vocational development and participation in select community support groups.

ADULT TREATMENT PROGRAMS
The adult treatment unit provides a multitude of holistic therapeutic programs, including individual and group counseling, substance abuse education, intervention, relapse prevention, anger management, life skills and primary medication-assisted treatment for opiate addiction case management. Supportive services are also available and include referral to community services, case management, support groups, parenting classes, vocational assistance, and basic medical services.

ADOLESCENT TREATMENT SERVICES
The Community Health Center recognizes that substance abusing children, ages 12-18, have special treatment needs that require innovative and age-appropriate programming.
The Adolescent Treatment Center at 702 East Market Street, Akron, is designed to meet the psychological, family, and health needs of each adolescent.
Individual and group counseling, aftercare services, urine drug screening, family counseling, referral to outside support groups, ancillary and medical services provide a well-rounded treatment approach.

WOMEN'S RECOVERY PROGRAM
"What does Maureen mean to me? She cared enough to
help me with my kids, was my counselor, my confidant
and friend. Now I have a home and am on my way."

Many women continue to face traditional barriers to treatment such as a lack of transportation and a need for childcare. This is one of the reasons why nationally only 3 in 10 women who are substance abusers receive the treatment they need. The Community Health Center's Women's Recovery Program eliminates barriers so women can obtain intervention, prevention, and treatment while providing a lifeline between women and the many community services available to them.

Our outreach services identify pregnant women and provide
necessary links to prenatal care. The goal of the Women's
Recovery Program is to support and help a woman remain drug free and deliver a healthy baby.
