Adults
While much of the effort of Community Pride is directed toward children and adolescents, there is an ongoing need in the adult population as well. The following adult programs are offered:
Woman's Support Group
This program is provided for women who have minimal support and limited social interaction. The goal is to provide an outlet for learning leisure activities as well as an opportunity to develop a personalized support system within the community.
Codependency Groups
This group is offered to women who are or have been in a codependent relationship. Women with low self-esteem are at risk to become involved in relationships that are physically and / or mentally abusive. The goal of this group is to teach women ways to care for themselves through group interaction and peer support.
Older Adult Groups
Older adults who have medical or physical disabilities and live in public housing may have limited access to the greater community. Group activities are successful in expanding leisure time activities and providing the opportunity for travel that might not have otherwise been possible. Older adult groups create neighborliness by building bonds that enhance the small circles of neighborly interaction that currently exist within the neighborhood.
Anger Management Group
This group is designed to use the ten step anger management program to develop new skills. Role playing is used to enable participants to feel anger and at the same time experience the positive steps of resolution. Based on the assumption that anger responses are learned behaviors, it is believed that these responses can be unlearned and substituted with more rational behavior.
Take Charge of Your Life
Focusing on vocational skills, this group learns goal-setting life management skills. Members of this group learn to integrate employment opportunities with their childcare, education, and transportation issues. Take Charge of Your Life is a comprehensive, holistic approach to integrating employment efforts with other life issues.
Cluster Apartment Program
The Cluster Apartment Program is designed for women and their children who live in public housing. Women who are selected for this program must be in jeopardy of losing their housing due to substance abuse. Women and children are given wrap-around services while they participate in treatment. After school prevention programs are offered for children.
