Community Clubhouse for Brain Injury
According to the Center
for Disease Control (CDC), brain injury affects approximately 1.5 million Americans
yearly, occurring every 22 seconds. Brain injury is a silent epidemic, which occurs
as a result of automobile and bicycle accidents, sports, falls, violence, strokes and
aneurysms, to name some. Each year more Americans will experience a brain injury than breast
cancer, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and HIV/AIDS combined!
The effects of traumatic brain injury (TBI) to an individual and their
family are devastating, many times causing deep feelings of isolation.
For this reason, there is a great need to reach out to this population.
The Community Clubhouse for Brain Injury (formerly the Ballinger TBI Clubhouse),
in collaboration with the Community Health Center, allows brain injured
individuals to stay connected and give them a sense of hope and belonging.
Community Clubhouse for Brain Injury is a community-based, non-profit,
faith based organization that offers long term support, in a non-medical
setting, to brain injured individuals who want to regain their independence.
The Clubhouse operates many programs to assist with community re-entry
and to decrease isolation for brain injured individuals. Programs include:
social recreation, pre-vocational training, community outreach, family
support and much more.
Admissions
Individuals with a brain injury may be eligible for mental
health services, primary health care and/or case management through the
Community Health Center. All new Clubhouse members are processed through
the Community
Health Center Admissions Department.
Fees for Services
A financial intake is completed for each new Clubhouse member. Members
are asked to pay for their food and beverages at the Clubhouse Café.
Additionally, a co-pay may be assessed for other services provided by
the Community Health Center.
