Mental Health Groups
Stress Management Group: Developed in 2005,
The Stress Management Group is a classroom-based group designed to identify,
address and resolve many of the issues which may cause stress and anxiety
in the everyday lives of our patients. The unique nature of our fellowship
is evident in the variety of our program participants. From individuals
in early recovery to those battling behavioral health care diagnosis,
we work through, around and over the obstacles that continue to plague
our patients.
As an important part of our Mental Health department, we continue
to expand the perceived limitations of our specialized populations by
providing Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment (CPST) services for
members of our community. Classes are located at our Adult
Treatment Center at 725 E. Market Street each Tuesday morning from
11am-12pm. We look forward to welcoming you into our family! For membership
information contact Farren Murphy at (330) 714-5535 or e-mail farren.murphy@commhealthcenter.org.
The Stress Management Wellness Group: Introduced
in the summer of 2008, The Stress Management Wellness Group has become
a patient favorite! This program provides our patients with the opportunity
to learn and incorporate nutrition and physical training methods into
their daily lifestyles to aid in their efforts to remain sober and stabilize
mental/physical health issues while re-enforcing the principles of fellowship,
peer support and teamwork.
Through a collaborative agreement with host facility University
Park YMCA, patients engage in weekly training and nutrition sessions.
Under the supervision of group facilitator (Farren Murphy, BA, CDCA, QMHS)
along with certified trainers at the YMCA, patients work collectively
and independently in order to achieve their optimum fitness goals. By
incorporating mind, body and spirit in recovery, we continue our quest
of providing innovative and effective rehabilitative Community Psychiatric
Support Treatment (CPST) services.
Program participants receive a comprehensive physical, program
gear and group/individual based incentives throughout their engagement.
Groups are held at University Park YMCA, 477 E. Market Street, Akron,
OH 44305, each Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoon 12:30 p.m. - 2:00
p.m. Transportation is available for those in need. Come and join the
team. Feel better from the inside! For membership information contact
Farren Murphy at (330) 714-5535 or e-mail farren.murphy@commhealthcenter.org.
