2011 training series offered locally in Akron. We invite you to take advantage of
these extremely valuable trainings for you and your staff.
Each training offers two or more approved educational hours. Under
each training, you will see letters indicating the type of RCH: Clinical (C),
Diagnostic (D), Supervision (S), Prevention (P) and Field Related (R).
All sessions are held at the Community Health Center, Main Campus, 725 E.
Market Street, Akron. Registration is held 30 minutes prior
to each session.
Please Note: Refunds are not issued unless Community Health
Center cancels or reschedules a session or inclement weather arises.

Saving Lives Through Suicide Prevention
and Intervention with Civilians and Veterans-CSP *4 Hours
Carolyn Givens, B.A, Executive Director of Ohio Prevention Suicide

Description: This workshop
will address the issue of suicide as a public health problem. Risk
and protective factors for suicide will be presented and information
regarding the products and services of the Ohio Suicide Prevention
Foundation will be offered. Following Ms. Given’s portion of
the workshop, Ms. Lindesmith will address issues of returning veterans
and the increase in suicide among the vets. Clinical issues, interventions
and resources will be discussed. Participants will work with case
studies and apply information presented in the session. Legal and
ethical issues regarding suicide will be explored. |

Understanding Sex Offenders from the Criminal Justice
and Treatment Perspectives-CSPD *4 Hours

LISW, Director of Community Services, Domestic Relations Court and
Therapist; John Booher and Alan Kelly- Both from Summit County Juvenile
Court Sex Offender Unit
Description: This workshop
will explore the legal issues regarding sexual offenses and the differences
in working with Sexual Offenders (SO) vs. the general population.
Information that would be useful to substance abuse and mental health
professionals will be provided to improve collaboration between systems
and help the Sexual Offenders get the best possible intervention and
treatment. A treatment professional will present the challenges of
working with sexual offenders and the best practices in clinical work
with this population. Case examples will be included in this presentation.
Legal and ethical considerations for the clinician will be addressed. |

will address issues of spiritual and the connection recovery from
addiction. Alternative spiritual practices will be explored and the
issue of dealing with persons that reject the concept of a higher
power will be addressed. Including a spiritual assessment and incorporating
spirituality into a comprehensive recovery plan will be addressed. |

Personality Disorders and Addiction-CSPD *6 Hours

Description: This workshop
will address common personality disorders that commonly occur in chemically
dependent persons. Diagnosis and treatment of personality disorders
will be the major focus of the workshop. Axis I diagnoses that commonly
occur with these disorders will be discussed. This workshop will provide
case examples and small group work to apply learning principles. |

will focus on providing culturally competent therapy to individuals,
couples and families of GLBT community. Issues including helping people
explore sexuality and treating mental health issues that challenge
people. Treatment considerations and best practices will be explored. |
