Tobacco prevention top priority
The Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS) awarded the Community Health Center $23,000 to run a two-year pilot program in the state of Ohio to determine how to best deliver tobacco cessation services to patients in recovery programs.
This program was initiated by the Ohio Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation (TUPCF) in response to several studies reporting individuals with a mental illness and/or chemical dependency issues have higher rates of tobacco use. TUPCF's goal is to ascertain what methods are most successful in reducing tobacco consumption among patients of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and ODADAS.
The Community Health Center continues to set standards in the treatment arena throughout the state, and this latest grant award is evidence of that fact. The CHC has been offering smoking cessation classes to patients and staff for nearly two years and maintains a smoke-free policy on all corporate properties and parking lots. Helping our patients become tobacco free is another part of our commitment to quality health care.
