Project THRIVE releases School Year 2004 Evaluation
The Community Health Center is the administrator of a community wide initiative known as Project THRIVE (Truancy Habits Reduced, Interventions Via Education). THRIVE strives to reduce truancy problems among school-age children. Through mediation with families and school involvement, this program has proven results.
During the past school year, THRIVE served four school districts in Summit County (i.e., Akron, Barberton, Cuyahoga Falls, and Woodridge) and continued to offer numerous intervention and prevention activities throughout 12 schools.
In SY 2003-04, Project THRIVE increased the number of students served by more than 92%, when compared to SY 2002-03. This year, Project THRIVE served 444 at-risk students and the program was expanded to serve six additional schools. In both years, most students served by the THRIVE Program were from the Akron school district.
THRIVE continues to expand as the Truancy Task Force increased its participation in area schools. Sponsorship is through the Summit County Juvenile Court, Summit County Truancy Task Force and the Community Health Center and is funded, in part by, the Ohio Department of Criminal Justice and the U.S. Department of Juvenile Justice. This year the CHC acquired 6 additional grants from Barberton Community Foundation, Department of Job and Family Services - Summit County, Department of Youth Services, Dollar General, Holland Oil and Lloyd & Louise K. Smith Foundation to expand services to area schools.
