Training to combat methamphetamine use
The Ohio Parents for Drug Free Youth, with funding from the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services awarded the Community Health Center $2,000 to create a new community coalition to identify and fight methamphetamine abuse in teens through increased awareness and prevention activities.
Project THRIVE, a program of Community Health Center, is partnering with the Summit County Truancy Task Force, Catholic Social Services, Love, Inc. and Charisma Community Connections to facilitate this new coalition. About 40 individuals and community leaders who interact with youth in the schools will initially be trained on methamphetamine as well as ways to form and strengthen community relationships and how to train other individuals in this specialized prevention education.
It is through these connections and contacts that future training and educational sessions may be achieved in order to spread the word about substance abuse prevention, especially methamphetamine. After training is complete, this network of agencies will form a speaker's bureau for methamphetamine education to various interested organizations such as parent/teachers associations, court personnel, church groups, housing authorities, etc.
