FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rapid Response HIV Test now available at Gate House of Summit County

The rapid HIV Test is now being offered at the Community Health Center's Gate House.

Monday through Thursday from 8:00-3:00, by appointment or walk-in.

Contact Heather May, Coordinator of Health Education at 330-315-3775 to schedule an appointment.

OraQuick ® is an FDA approved rapid point-of-care fingerstick and venipuncture whole blood test used to aid in the diagnosis of HIV-1 infection. This CLIA waived test, which detects the presence of antibodies to HIV-1, requires only a drop of blood and can produce results in 20 minutes.

The Rapid HIV Test, OraQuick is an alternative to the former OraSure mouth swab where results took a week or longer to receive. Each visit takes approximately 30 minutes to complete the test and provide Ohio Department of Health pre and post test counseling where each patient is provided a risk reduction plan from an ODH certified counselor.

Gate House of Summit County is a cooperative program between the Community Health Center and Violet's Cupboard to provide substance abuse treatment and HIV/AIDS prevention and education for the minority “at-risk” population.
