RELEASE
CHC receives grant from Demetros Trust
Community Health Center was awarded a $5,000 grant from The Mary and
Dr. George L. Demetros Charitable Trust for expansion of the Horizon House program.
Developed in 2005, Horizon House is a two year transitional housing program for homeless
young adults ages 18-22 in Summit County. In our county alone, over 300 young adults
go homeless every year. Horizon House is designed to tackle a percentage of that problem,
but that percentage is rising quickly due to the economy we are facing. To serve more young
adults, Horizon House expanded services to four more young people in need this past June at
a third location.
Horizon House challenges residents for the long-term and tackles the problems
of homelessness, unemployment and under-educated young men and women who
are motivated to break the cycle of poor enculturation and become productive
members of society. To remain in the program clients must be furthering
their education, whether completing a high school diploma, technical school
or college, and holding some type of employment.
For more information about the program, please call 330-315-3737 or visit
